Burns Night 2009

Our 6th Annual PTA’s Burns Night celebrations were another huge success.

As the haggis was stabbed and the toast said, 108 revellers sat down to a hearty meal of haggis, tatties and neeps all washed down with copious amounts of wine, ale and whisky.

As in previous years this was followed by fine Scottish dancing (remarkably controlled) under the direction of our caller with the bonus of extra dancing space this year giving the room for faster and bigger spins, which was great fun at the time, but in some cases resulted in war wounds on Sunday Morning!

The wall and table decorations transformed the hall and Community Room with ivy and various other garden shrubs sourced from gardens around the village and then carefully made into decorations by committee members.

Food was bought, prepared, cooked and served by our own fair hands and washed down with drinks from the seriously discounted bar which was stocked and manned by the team throughout, to ensure an enthusiastic and successful time was had by all. And with plenty of smiley faces continuing to drink and dance late into the night before the chilly walk home, we were reassured that had certainly been achieved.

Mention must also be made of the raffle.  Fantastic raffle prizes were sourced and wrapped - and with plenty of tickets sold on the night a huge thank-you must go out to all those who donated items to the raffle.

Finally, a tremendous thank-you must go out to all the committee and ‘friends of the PTA’ who put in so much time, energy and enthusiasm before, during and on Sunday morning (to clear up), to ensure the evening was such a huge success. Without the committee’s willingness to give up their free time these events wouldn’t happen.

A thoroughly enjoyable night was had by all, with substantial funds raised for the school to go towards the completion of the main playground.
